A business logo reading "Mind's Eye Mania" Between "Mind's Eye" and "Mania" is a black circle with a blue, capital Greek letter Phi. Inside the left lobe is a billboard-face capital letter Q with the edging in yellow, filled with blue, and inside the right lobe is a yellow circle, with a smaller blue circle inside it away from center, with the lowercase letter e inside the blue circle. The convolution that is that black circle and its contents is the personal insignia of Vincent D. Camley, owner of this business. Eccentric Offerings of Whimsy & Wonder™

Mental Health Activism

Thank you for visiting the Mental Health Community Activism page! This is just to give you a brief description of one of my major motivations in life and introduce you to another website I own, MentalHealthPride.com. Obviously a big goal in making MOST of the Mind's Eye Mania site is to attempt to sell stuff and hopefully allow me to make a living, but another goal has always been to try to make the world better, healthier, friendlier, and safer for the millions of people living with mental illness. I have since decided that having it on a separate website, separate from my commercial interests, would be more appropriate, however.

I myself am mentally ill. I have schizoaffective disorder (bipolar type), autism, and PTSD and other anxiety symptoms. So this is a personal fight for me.

About 1 in 5 people lives with mental illness, yet we have been persistently mistreated and abused throughout history. Things are getting better for us, thankfully, but there's still a lot of work to do. I believe that the mental health community needs and deserves to have community pride, and I want to promote that. That's why I designed this flag:

A flag featuring a black horizontal stripe, above that a dark blue stripe twice the width of the black one, and above that an azure blue stripe the same width as the middle stripe. There is a gold figure in the middle resembling both the Greek capital letter Psi, and a person reaching for the sun, partially shown in the same color at the top edge of the flag.

This is not to say that we should be proud OF being sick. That would be stupid and pointless. But we can be proud AND have mental illness. We can be proud that we have a community that helps us build each other up in the face of obstacles, and we can be proud to know that we can find the strength to overcome those obstacles. (It's pretty similar with the LGBT+ Pride flag which put this idea in my head actually. I suppose some people are probably proud of being sexually attracted to these people instead of those people, but for the most part that's not the point of that either.)
